POETRY
Editor: Trevor Cunnington

he picks you from the field
grips you in his hand
and stares at your
top-heavy shape and yellow colour
bringing you closer
so you inhale his air
he shoves ash down your throat
poisoning your stem
stealing your breath
he takes your flower
and chops off your head
strikes it with his match
and adds it to the dust of other
daisies, buttercups, tulips
that he burned earlier.
